PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Widening of the Homestead Extension of Florida’s Turnpike (HEFT) from SR 836 to NW 106th Street; FPID 435543-1-52-0; Miami-Dade County, FL
Client: Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise (FTE)
Length: 8 miles
Duration: 1/21 – Present
Widening of HEFT from 6/8 lanes to 10 lanes with Express Lanes, from milepost 26 to milepost 34. Improvements also included widening and reconstruction of the HEFT interchanges at NW 12th St, NW 41st St, NW 74th St, and NW 106th St. HEFT mainline or C-D road bridges widened over SR 836/NW 12th St, NW 25th St, NW 41st St, NW 58th St and NW 74th St Canal. Ramp bridges were also widened at NW 41st St and NW 74th St. Interchange improvements at SR 836 include the construction of three new ramps including direct connection ramp flyovers (Category II Bridges) from eastbound and westbound SR 836 to northbound HEFT Express Lanes, and from the southbound HEFT Express Lanes to eastbound and westbound SR 836. In addition, three new ramp bridges will be constructed at the SR 836 and NW 12th Street Interchanges. NW 117th Ave will be converted from a two-lane two-way frontage road between NW 34th St and NW 41st St, and from NW 41st St to NW 50th St, to a single lane northbound only roadway, and new NW 117th Ave single lane bridge will be constructed over NW 41st St with ramp access to northbound HEFT and a slip ramp connecting northbound only NW 117th Ave local traffic across NW 41st St. Other improvements include subsoil excavation of unsuitable materials, signing and marking, drainage and stormwater management improvements, highway lighting, and upgraded ITS infrastructure. Several toll facilities are being added or replaced including the construction of 4 new All Electronic Tolling (AET) express lane facilities, 4 replacement ramp AET facilities, and new AET mainline facility with accessible toll gantries for both express and general-purpose toll lanes located north of NW 74th Street. This project also includes Wrong Way Counter Measures (solar powered with cellular transmission) at 4 locations utilizing Blink Link software to communicate to the TMC.

I-75/Palmetto Express Lanes Project (Palmetto Express), (432687-1-52-01); Miami-Dade County, FL
This 4-year Design-Build project is part of FDOT’s South Florida’s Express Lanes network, which will ultimately provide Express Lanes continuity between SR-826/Palmetto Expressway, I-75, Florida’s Turnpike, I-95 and Sawgrass Expressway.
